Firearms Safety Course

Category - Longarm

The Firearms Safety Course is designed to support those in the community who wish to engage in recreational shooting in Victoria.   It is a requirement of the firearm licensing framework that those who want to apply for a firearm licence to complete an approved firearm safety course.

The safety course is designed to give participants a solid understanding of the safety code and principles of safe firearm handling. Additionally, participants should leave with an understanding of the responsibility that they have to the community and themselves to prevent firearm accidents, theft, and misuse.

At the conclusion of the course, participants are expected to be able to successfully complete the multiple-choice safety and law knowledge tests and demonstrate that they have understood the material presented to them. Participants who are successful will be issued with a certificate. The certificate will need to be supplied to the Licensing and Regulation Division should they choose to proceed to apply for a firearms licence. The test must be completed in person.
